The medicinal uses of black pepper are innumerable. It helps deal with many day-to-day ailments like digestive issues, high blood pressure, cough, cold and other infections. The nutrients in black pepper are what has given it a powerful culinary status along with the high medicinal value. Black pepper is one of the most versatile spices and one of the most common spices added to cuisines around the world. In order to keep their fragrance and flavor intact, they are generally milled while preparing the dishes and added at the last minutes in the recipes.

Black pepper is a tropical plant and Vietnam is the world's largest producer and exporter of pepper, producing 34% of the world's produce. The plant is best suited for mixed cropping as the rowing vines can be trained on other crops like coconut, jackfruit etc and this method is widely used by our farmers. Pepper plant start yielding usually from the 3rd or 4th year. As the plant grows, the shoot is tied to the support tree. The shade is regulated by looping the branches of the support to provide optimal light to the vines. Looping also helps the support grow straight. The berries are ready for harvesting when anyone berry in the cluster shows a scarlet red color. Berries are separated from the spikes and dried in the sun for 7 to 10 days until the outer skin becomes black and shrunken and assumes the characteristic wrinkled appearance of commercial black pepper. White pepper is produced by removing the outer skin and the pulp below it.
